School of Postgraduate, Taraba State University sets to withdraw some Masters students in the institution as a result of default in the payment of 2019/2020 second semester tuition (17th September 2021: Withdrawal deadline) fee as fees are being paid on a Semester basis in Taraba State University. This payment scheme was one of the legacies of Prof. Vincent Ado Tenebe (Vice-Chancellor Taraba State University), which was implemented to provide succor to Students as tuition fees were been hiked during his assumption in Office.
The tuition fee for the School of postgraduate (TSU) as obtained by our correspondent is running to the tune of N170,000 per session (N85,000 per semester) and attracts the payment of a late charge of an extra N10,000.
This information was obtained in a circular signed by the Deputy Coordinator School of Post-Graduate Dr. Chris Amuche on 3rd September 2021.
The 2019/2020 academic session in School of Postgraduates, Taraba State University started in Early May 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic which ravaged the whole of 2020. It is on record that exams started the first week of July 2021 and ended mid-July. According to one Postgraduate student, the second semester of 2019/2020 was set to resume the first week of August 2021.
With these lines of trends, its limited time, and daring consequences, the actions of the School of Postgraduate Taraba State University has raised eyebrows and worry among students and communities as one Anumten (Name not real) was quoted saying:
“My first-semester result is not yet out but the university is threatening me of withdrawal after a month of resumption because of tuition fees??”.
This is coming few weeks after Taraba State University had suspended some undergraduate students with cases of Result Portal Compromise (RPC) which were later pardoned. The circular reads
“The following appeal from stakeholders, parents, guardians, and students, management wishes to reconsider its decision for your suspension by tempering justice with mercy, hence its decision to call you back to continue with your first semester examinations with immediate effect”.
The Governor of Taraba State, Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku (Rescue Captain) has majored in his Rescue agenda which spells Education as one of the Rescue Mission Agendas to salvage the education system in Taraba State. According to Blueprint.ng, Every sector in Taraba state has experienced the magic touch of Gov Darius Ishaku’s administration, but education is exceptional as ANDREW OJIH reports.
With these trends in the School of Postgraduate Taraba State University, the answer is now unclear if the management will still pardon the Master’s students as exhibited towards the undergraduate students or will still maintain the status quo.
More details later.
